SPARTANBURG, SC – December 16, 2020 – OTO Development today announced it has been recognized with two 2019 Hilton Legacy Award for hotels in California and Florida. The Hilton Garden Inn Sunnyvale was awarded New Build of the Year and Hampton Inn Key West was recognized as the Conversion of the Year winner. The annual awards program celebrates owners and development partners in the Americas for contributions toward brand excellence and development efforts. Hilton recognized nearly 60 high performing owners and developers across 15 different categories.
“To be honored with not one but two 2019 Hilton Legacy Awards for the same year is an incredible accomplishment,” said OTO Development’s CEO Corry Oakes. “These extraordinary projects were unique designs that incorporated local market flair with modern amenities. Both are a testament to our real estate, development, and purchasing teams’ talent and dedication.”
2019 Hilton Legacy Award for New Build of the Year
Hilton Garden Inn Sunnyvale, a 238-room, six-story hotel, opened on November 4, 2019, featuring approximately 3,000 square feet of flexible meeting space with the latest A/V and technology capabilities. The onsite restaurant, Kitchen at Peery Park, serves up a creative twist on California cuisine for guests and locals alike and features craft beer, wine, signature cocktails in the lounge.
Located at 767 N. Mathilda Way in Sunnyvale, the new hotel is convenient to the headquarters of Silicon Valley’s leading technology firms and is near the Shoreline Amphitheater, Levi’s Stadium, and Stanford University and Hospital. The lively design captures the community’s innovative vibe, immersing guests in the essence of Silicon Valley.
2019 Hilton Legacy Award for Conversion of the Year
Now open as Hampton Inn Key West, the hotel was originally built in the 1950s as the 100-room Key Ambassador Resort Inn.
“When we purchased this property in September of 2018, we had a very distinct vision of what we could bring to Key West with our relationship with the Hampton by Hilton brand,” said Oakes. “While OTO has built its reputation by developing new hotels in high-barrier-to-entry markets, the company’s growth strategy also includes purchasing – and re-purposing – existing assets in prime locations.”
The seven buildings on the property underwent a transformative renovation, taking the guest room walls down to the studs. The project also included updates to the hotel’s swimming pool, the poolside Cheekie Hut bar and grill, the addition of a fitness center, and a total refresh of the hotel lobby.
Located at 3755 S. Roosevelt Boulevard, Hampton Inn Key West is convenient to Key West International Airport as well as many of the island’s feature attractions. The hotel has added a complimentary shuttle to take guests to and from the airport and to many of the island’s top draws, including Mallory Square, Old Town, the Hemingway House, and Duval Street.
The Legacy Awards recognize the passion, creativity, and innovative spirit of Hilton’s partners who are committed to quality projects that meet or exceed brand standards and have a positive impact on communities around the world. The leadership of Hilton’s development and brand teams select the winners based on strict criteria including, but not limited to, hotel quality and commitment to guest experience.
