Bringing 'A New Way to Hotel' to DC’s Golden Triangle

Construction is underway on OTO Development’s latest Marriott-branded property – a new AC Hotel in Washington DC.

Lendlease, the project’s general contractor, recently broke ground on the 14-story, 219-room hotel, which brings the European-inspired AC Hotels by Marriott brand to DC’s central business district. Located on the site of the former Smith & Wollensky restaurant near the popular Dupont Circle neighborhood, the hotel’s post-tension design includes a curtainwall façade with architectural precast concrete, masonry, metal panels, and punched windows. Amenities are slated to include a first-floor lounge and dining area with high ceilings, a second-floor fitness center, hydration stations on every floor, and a penthouse with two meeting spaces and outdoor seating.

OTO Development, part of The Johnson Group, has already opened four AC Hotels – AC Hotel San Francisco Airport/Oyster Point Waterfront, AC Hotel Spartanburg, AC Hotel Chapel Hill Downtown and AC Hotel New York Times Square – with more in the pipeline.

“As hoteliers – and as travelers ourselves – we appreciate everything about the AC Hotels brand,” says Corry Oakes, President/CEO of OTO Development. “From design-driven aesthetics to a service philosophy focused on essentials, these properties provide an elegant but uncomplicated experience, whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure. We are delighted to work with an incredible team of project partners to bring the AC’s ‘new way to hotel’ to DC’s Golden Triangle.”

OTO has contracted with Lendlease, a leading international property and infrastructure group, to provide general construction services for the ACDC project; other partners include WDG Architecture from Washington DC and Paradigm Design Group from Houston, Texas.

Lendlease previously partnered with OTO Development on the construction of Hyatt Place Chicago/Downtown-The Loop. That project achieved LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and was recognized by Hyatt as the 2015 Development Project of the Year

“Lendlease is excited to continue our working relationship with OTO Development on a high-quality hospitality project in Washington DC,” says Matthew Haught, Lendlease Vice President for the Washington DC office. “The hotel’s location and chic design will appeal to the most discerning business or leisure traveler.”
